No music No life
Some of you may remember that line from your local neighborhood Tower Records. Well that line rang especially true for me and still does. Music is the one constant in my life other than family that I can draw inspiration from and immerse myself in. All forms all kinds, good music is good music plain and simple. While most of my tastes lean to the heavy side of things, it's certainly what I enjoy playing most as a musician, I don't exclude any genre. In the same breath I could easily extol the virtues of Brooklyn doom merchants Batillus, abstract black metal pop shoegazers White Moth, sarcastic dynamos Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, and the bass heroics of Jaco Pastorius. To limit one self for a lifetime ,in my eyes, is like painting with only one color ( let's say brown) forever. Yes there are subtle shades differences with in that one color, but at the end of the day all you've got are a bunch of brown fucking paintings. Throw a few colors and shapes on top of that and you have much more interesting compositions. I know I'm rambling here but my point is simple. Music like life covers many facets and cultures, reflective of the very nature of humanity. Life without knowing music, of all kinds, would be like a Rothko painting... Fucking boring!
